At Dravyaniti Consulting (www.dravyaniti.com), we are constantly working to bring the benefits of our understanding on financial markets, data and technology to the benefits of our clients, who are companies and individuals trying to solve challenging financial problems.
Python has taken the data analytics space by storm – more so in the financial services space. With the rapid growth of data and ever-increasing need to process data faster and getting results of back-testing in shorter spans of time, there is no other better time than now to delve into the world of languages like Python. To give a perspective, the Indian Market Fundamental Data on Quandl has a dataset of a little over 9.1 million rows. To handle this in Excel, it will need huge amount of computing resources before one can open the file and do meaningful work with it, or it would take a lot of time by breaking the file into smaller chunks and processing it.
Not so with Python. With 10-12 lines of code we can open and transform this huge matrix of data and start building queries. Consider also a scenario when you may need to combine technical indicators data along with fundamental data – then there is no question that Python can come to the rescue. And the Python is very descriptive so having some basic English language skills along with some experience with Python we can do lot of powerful things.
